Been a bit annoyingly busy this last week or so - but the chosen one goes to boot camp tonight, the lad's at forest school today so will be knackered & in bed by 8, no live footy distraction - just me, the dog, Alexa, and a pile of late 1979, early 1980 mags. Not even ashamed 🤓

October 1979. Dark days for #lufc under Jimmy Adamson Out. The Don's boys were mostly playing or managing elsewhere. The Leeds decline was swift & shocking! (A great year to start a supporters club branch!🤪🤣). Sharing from Football Weekly News (I love that mag!)...

The first of few high spots in the 1979/80 season saw the emergence of Terry Connor. FWN were bang on with their prediction, and here was that great #lufc servant Maurice Lindley again. The ex-Foxwood High lad made his scoring debut at #EllandRoad days after this first feature...

The Don's #lufc Legends still making it into the popular mags (Football Weekly News, November 1979), and many taken the management plunge elsewhere... Clarke One Nil with a bit of FA Cup controversy!

Last couple from a busy November for #lufc related features in Football Weekly News 1979. The four Welsh Musketeers, Alan Curtis, Brian Flynn, Carl Harris & Byron Stevenson. And a rumour that Leeds would be bidding big money for teenager Andy Ritchie from 'them lot'. Patience...

Newcastle's Irving Nattrass became the focus of #lufc transfer speculation for a second Summer running, this time Jimmy Adamson & not Armfield the man in charge putting him on top of his wanted list with Sunderland's Bob Lee. Hoping to splash the Frank Gray cash #OnThisDay 1979.

The okey-cokey Bob Lee transfer saga of 1979 continued in the past days but put to bed #OnThisDay as Jimmy Adamson confirmed #lufc had pulled out yet was not prepared to say why. At one point the Newcastle press were so confident the Sunderland player had signed, they reported it

Quote of the week... and a worrying one from Manny Cussins who was backing Jimmy Adamson OUT in 1979! More like it, whoever Alex Goodman was! #lufc

Missed one back in 1989 with another defender moved on by Howard Wilkinson (25th July), as David Rennie was sold to Bristol City. Using that word dependable again but not up the standard #lufc were to set. 100+ apps, 7 goals - one which we will always remember at Hillsborough...

The fixtures for Leeds United's first Football League Division Two campaign were published in the paper #OnThisDay 1920. Facing the same opposition back-to-back as was the way. Great for grudges! And details of the first season ticket allowance being for 'investors' only... #lufc

A day late for #OnThisDay but, meh! England's 1966 World Cup heroes replayed the final against West Germany at #EllandRoad in 1985 (28th July), a fundraiser for victims of the Valley Parade tragedy. Legends, but Jack Charlton getting the biggest cheer ❤️🤍💙🤍💛 #ThreeLions #lufc

July 1966, 22 year old winger Howard Wilkinson was sold by Sheffield Wednesday to Brighton &HA. After moving as a teenager from the United of Bramall Lane he could not secure enough game time at Hillsborough either so moved south to kick-start his career at the Goldstone Ground.

Project?! Don Revie signed 14 year old Sheffield twins Maurice & Norman Parkin in 1964. The former stayed at Leeds longest but released to Shrewsbury in July 1968 & would play in the States. His brother went to Chesterfield & would experience European football with Valetta. #LUFC

A 'debate' with a Leeds fan at a festival this weekend lead me to digging out * Robert Endeacott's novel, One Northern Soul for my own sanity. Needed a smidge of proof 'WACCOE' was a United song born a few years later than events in Paris! 🫣 (* Author, artist & top fella!) #lufc
