Particularly poignant moment to be in Viet Nam as the country marks 50 years since the end of the war. In my meetings with officials today, I thanked them for their country’s commitment and support to United Nations Peacekeeping and global peace & security.

Thank you UNDP in Viet Nam and #VNMAC for hosting the moving exhibit of artworks by hundreds of children living in the areas most contaminated by landmines & explosive remnants of war. Support to #MineAction is critical to ensure #SaferFutures for these younger generations.

With almost 20% of its territory contaminated by landmines & remnants of war, it’s inspiring to see the commitment of the government & its partners, incl. UNDP in Viet Nam to building #MineAction capacity through advanced technologies, by training more women deminers & more. #VNMAC

Today, I met with UNIFIL leadership in Naqoura as well as our brave peacekeepers on the ground and at sea to discuss their vital work in promoting security and stability in the region. I am very proud of their remarkable dedication in this very challenging context.

Productive meeting with President Joseph Aoun Lebanese Presidency in Beirut today. We discussed UNIFIL’s vital role in sustaining the cessation of hostilities and advancing United Nations Security Council resolution 1701, and reaffirmed the Mission’s continued support to Lebanese authorities.

Pleased to meet Lebanon Prime Minister Nawaf Salam & Minister of Foreign Affairs Youssef Raggi. We discussed UNIFIL’s work to promote stability along the Blue Line & reiterated the Mission’s commitment to supporting communities & helping the parties implement resolution 1701.

Met with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri to discuss UNIFIL’s work and the importance of continued political support for the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1701. Sustained coordination is key to peace and security in the region.

Privileged to extend my warmest wishes to Lt. Gen. Aroldo Lázaro (Archived) as he concludes his tour as UNIFIL Head of Mission & Force Commander. He led with integrity & courage in challenging times, strengthening support to الجيش اللبناني, local communities & dialogue between parties.

Today, I visited Camp Faouar in the Golan Heights to meet with UN Disengagement Observer Force peacekeepers and Major General Anita Asmah, Head of Mission and Force Commander. I am very proud of their extraordinary work in these challenging times.

Met interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa to discuss UN Disengagement Observer Force & the situation in the Golan Heights. Welcomed Syria’s authorities’ commitment to exercising their security responsibilities in line w/ relevant agreements & int’l law. United Nations Peacekeeping continues to support this vital work.

Warm welcome to Major General Diodato Abagnara as he assumes command of UNIFIL as Head of Mission & Force Commander. His experience, including as former Sector West Commander, will be invaluable in leading the Mission’s vital work for peace & stability in South Lebanon.

At a discussion on the future of United Nations Peacekeeping in Africa hosted by UN GA President, Jean-Pierre Lacroix stressed decades-long impact helping African countries move from conflict to peace & the need to evolve in a changing landscape. African Union-led missions can be a powerful complement.

I welcome the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo & Rwanda, facilitated by the U.S. This is a crucial step for dialogue, de-escalation & stability in the Great Lakes region. UN Peacekeeping & MONUSCO remain fully committed to support its implementation.

Briefed the media today on my visit to the #MiddleEast, where the need for UNIFIL's continuous presence was stated to me clearly & unequivocally by all Lebanese interlocutors. Along w/ Member States, we will continue our efforts towards the full implementation of #UNSCR 1701.
