The cherry tree ‘Blushing Bride’, planted in our Gardens by a visiting Japanese Princess. Note the granite marker stone in the foreground with the bronze Imperial household seal - placed there to mark a very special ‘day in the life’ which will be long remembered in Tramore.

World Expo 2025 has just opened in Osaka. Its very colourful mascot, accompanied by Japanese Ambassador HE Junji Shimada, paid us a special visit to mark this event. Thanks to ‘Munster Express’ & photographer Noel Browne for the coverage.

Our Victorian Garden section is a sea of tulips this week- our best showing ever of this legendary bedding flower.

The 1910 Japan-British Exhibition in the White City, London was a major cultural & industrial promotion. It triggered an interest in Japan in the West which has persisted to this day. This is one of the official postcards from the exhibition, gifted to us by a local friend.

Our Chairperson Agnes delivers a lecture in Farmleigh this afternoon coinciding with the ‘Kwaidan’ art exhibition there which runs until August. Thanks to OPW for facilitating this event.

Today we hosted a unique seminar, led by people who knew him personally, about Waterford’s Sean Dunne. Remember especially Dunne’s childhood memoir ‘In My Father’s House’ & the sublime poems which still glow & resonate, thirty years after his tragically early passing.

As Taoiseach Micheal Martin’s official visit to Japan looms here’s the menu card cover from President Paddy Hillery’s Welcome Dinner in Kyoto back in 1983. So many things have changed over those 4 decades but not the friendship and cultural affinity between our people.
