The Lake District is a fantastic place for paddle sports like paddle boarding. Before you head out make sure to check the wind & weather. 🌪️Wind can make paddling much more difficult 🌧️Rain can cause river levels to surge & change their character completely #WaterSafety

Do you wear personal flotation when out paddling? Buoyancy aids are an essential piece of a paddlers kit that can reduce the risks posed by Cold Water Shock should you end up in difficulties. Link for more interesting info - rnli.org/safety/lifejac… #WaterSafety RNLI

‼️Tip of the week‼️ Take a means of communication with you when out paddling 🤳 A VHF radio or mobile phone in a waterproof case means you can raise the alarm if the worst happens‼️ #WaterSafety

Kill Cords can deteriorate in condition over time! Keep an eye on 👀 1⃣It's elasticity! It shouldn't be too long like the cord in the photo! 2⃣Whether the outer material is in 1 piece or cracked & worn 3⃣The clip! Is it functional or rusty/deformed? #WaterSafety

This image from Google Earth of Coniston Water shows how our bodies of open water can change in depth very quickly! If you're not a confident open water swimmer, consider the use of personal flotation & enter the water slowly to avoid Cold Water Shock! #WaterSafety Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service

Our Ranger team have been carrying out maintenance work to path surfacing at Elleray Woods, adding stone pitched Waths to help manage surface water and add resilience. This very popular path to the summit of Orrest Head had suffered recent storm damage. Lake District

Investigating a blocked culvert today, one of the lids had broken blocking the channel. Blockage removed, and new lid fitted it's running nicely. Always satisfying to repair these old features and see them doing what they were built to do. Lake District CulvertSurveilences
