Today’s @nebraskawildlifeeducation #inktober theme was ‘Stretch.’ The Platte River (plus the North and South Platte), illustrated here, stretches across Nebraska and is important to much of Nebraska’s wildlife.

Have you ever looked into a pond or a lake, seen this, and wondered what could have made such perfect sediment circles? These are the nests of sunfishes! Males guard fertilized eggs while also fanning fresh oxygenated water over them. Nebraska #inktober

Not a #sundayfishsketch, but a great example of Müllerian mimicry for #Nebraska #inktober. Monarch and Viceroy butterflies are both toxic. By looking similar, if one species gets eaten and poisons a predator, that predator is unlikely to predate on anything that looks similar!

This week we catch up with Rene Martin Dr. Rene P. Martin and hear what she has been up to in the last 5.5 years (whoa, we're getting old). We chat about wrapping up at Kansas, a post doc at AMNH, #SundayFishSketch, and a new gig as professor at the University of Nebraska.

Two very quick sketches to cover yesterday and today’s Nebraska #inktober themes. Did you know there’s a group of fishes called sleeper gobies? Some of them even native to the USA! Also, many of us can attest to having a bluegill be our first #prickly fish. And one to remember!

I’ve been participating in a Nebraska #inktober challenge and this Sunday’s theme is #fossil. So, that is what I’ll also be doing for the #SundayFishSketch #FishyTheme!

I fell off the daily sketch train, but, continuing to follow Nebraska Game and Parks #inktober themes, this weekend's #SundayFishSketch #FishyTheme is 'Family.' There are a lot of species that have pair bonds or social hierarchies! #sciart
