In a university setting victims of sexual assault and violence are more likely to know their perpetrators and 42% of these victims will not disclose to anyone.

The Crime Survey of England and Wales estimates 20% of women and 4% of men have experienced some type of sexual assault since the age of 16, equivalent to an estimated 3.4 million female victims and 631,000 male victims.

If you hear someone making an offence joke or trivialising sexual violence then we’re asking you to speak out. We need to take sexual violence seriously so that victims and survivors feel they can speak up and be believed.

Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults occur to children ages 17 and under. The average age for reported sexual abuse is nine years old. More than 20% of children are sexually abused before the age of eight.
