The team at the Seattle Flu Alliance have sequenced the genome the #COVID19 community case reported yesterday from Snohomish County, WA, and have posted the sequence publicly to gisaid.org. There are some enormous implications here. 1/9
Dr Gaetan Burgio @[email protected] Doherty Institute This work was, and still is, a true team effort. Proud to work alongside all Norelle Sherry Courtney Renee Lane @drandersgs Sebastian Duchene @KristyHoran14 @Acinetobazza Michelle Sait Tuyet Hoang Tim Stinear @drdebwilliamson Benjamin Howden and VIDRL and @VicGovDHHS.
This is a heroic effort on the part of the team at MDU including Torsten Seemann Benjamin Howden but the best part is that they publicly released all the genomic data weeks ago for others to analyse, rather than protecting it to prevent "getting scooped"
Using genomics to directly inform our public health actions for COVID-19. Very proud to be part of this project, and all our ongoing work implementing routine public health genomics with @VicGovDHHS, Benjamin Howden, and many, many others; a great multidisciplinary team & effort.
Very proud to play a small part in this world class, proactive response and grateful for the tireless efforts and of Chief Health Officer, Victoria, @annaliesevd and many, many others across Victoria.
Switzerland provides a great example of why all-cause mortality needs to be reported, every week, from every country. Read Resolve to Save Lives's new technical package on rapid mortality surveillance: bit.ly/2ZviajL
I finally "co-published" in "Nature" with Nick Loman ! Well ok, it was Nature News and Clare Watson interviewed myself (AU), Nick Loman (UK) and @Joepdl (NZ) for a story about our COVID-19 genomics and bioinformatics work 🙂 nature.com/articles/d4158…
So great to meet Courtney Renee Lane at HPRUged from University of Melbourne about their pathogen genomics programmes. Fantastic networking opportunities and Looking forward to seeing you again in July in Aussie Land!
