Today, 8 May 2025, President Michael D. Higgins hosted officers and volunteers from Civil Defence units across the country to mark 75 years of Civil Defence in Ireland. civildefence.ie/uachtarain-na-… Civil Defence IRL



Tonight, we were joined by members of Portlaoise Community First Responders for an introduction to Civil Defence and some training scenarios with our volunteers. Civil Defence IRL


This Wednesday & Thursday Civil Defence Officers & Assistant CDOs from across the country gathered for intensive continuous professional development. Thank you to Office of Emergency Planning for hosting us on Wednesday at the National Emergency Coordination Centre


Tonight, a number of our volunteers participated in multi disciplined training exercise, which included search and extrication techniques along with medical treatment scenarios. Civil Defence IRL


This morning some of our volunteers supported An Garda SĂochána Laois/Offaly with an event for #GoPurpleDay to help raise awareness about domestic abuse and the local support services available to those affected by domestic abuse in Ireland. Civil Defence IRL


It has been a busy weekend for our volunteers who provided medical cover to a number of events including Africa Day in Portlaoise, Fleadh Cheoil Laoise in Clonaslee and assistance to Kilkenny Civil Defence at the U20 All Ireland Hurling final in UPMC. Civil Defence IRL


Tonight we had 12 new volunteers complete their induction training programme and become active members of the unit. Over the last 5 months the group has undertaken a suite of training courses to give them core skills for volunteering with Civil Defence. Civil Defence IRL


Training sessions for our volunteers this week focused on skills familiarisation and considerations to be taken with the treatment of different types of traumatic injuries. Volunteers also took part in training on our Inflatable tents. Civil Defence IRL



Tonight is night two of the Old Fort Quarter Festival in Portlaoise. We have a number of volunteers providing medical cover across several events this weekend. Civil Defence IRL


Today has been another busy day for our volunteers. We provided medical cover for the Abbeyleix House and Farm Airshow and Family Day. We also had medical crews covering the Vintage summer festival in Castletown and the Old Fort Festival in Portlaoise. Civil Defence IRL



This weekend we have a number of volunteers providing medical cover for The Folly Festival in Cullohill and the Laois Walks Festival Civil Defence IRL


Today, our volunteers are finishing off another busy weekend providing medical cover for several events including the Irish Pony Trials, The Folly Festival and the Laois Walks Festival. Many thanks to Kilkenny Civil Defence for the additional crew last night Civil Defence IRL


After a busy few weeks of events, our weekly training continues tonight with another group of volunteers completing their FoodSafetyAuthority Level 1 operator training while a number of our Emergency First Responders begin their refresher course. Civil Defence IRL


A big thanks to the PHGRMidlands & Irish Paramedicine Education & Research Network team for inviting two of our volunteer EMTs to the research roundtable event this evening for Paramedics Day to discuss their role as volunteers with Civil Defence IRL and how volunteers intergrate with other agencies.


It has been another busy weekend for our volunteers who have been providing medical cover for several events across the county including the Laois Walks Festival and the Raheen vintage club annual vintage rally. Civil Defence IRL


A big thanks to our neighbours in Kilkenny for the invite to a fantastic CPD session on hypothermia and drowning injuries. A big thanks to Dave Murtagh for an excellent presentation. Civil Defence IRL


It has been a busy weekend for our volunteers who have been providing medical cover for several events including the Trilogy Aquathon, the PATH charity cycle and the Laois Walks Festival. Several volunteers are also undertaking their EFR refresher training. Civil Defence IRL
