I'm not sure I've ever seen a company owner destroy a product's basic functionality as quickly as Musk has done with Twitter. I find it borderline useless as a fast news service these days and my feed is full of tweets from people I don't follow.

One important point missing from the discourse about Steve Scalise calling himself ‘David Duke without the baggage,’ is that, when he used the label, this was already a viable political lane, one used to describe other politicians, before Scalise. /1 theguardian.com/us-news/2023/o…

Yes, and the long cycle of Dems bailing out GOP recklessness arguably made the bomb-throwing worse over time. With rescue guaranteed, GOP no longer felt responsibility to govern - just to placate their extremist wing and internal politics. Sometimes the adults need to say “no.”

Great historical excavation here by Lawrence Glickman. I didn’t know this, and, if its possible, it actually makes Scalise look *worse* than if he had coined the phrase “David Duke without the baggage” himself. Scalise viewed himself as a *mass produced* racial nationalist.

Three articles on the homepage on how the Federal Reserve, Wall Street, and "Markets" (which "shuddered" at the "much stronger labor market") are each responding to the strong job report--important perspectives, to be sure. But surely other views are worth highlighting as well.

“David Duke without the baggage.” People like Steve Scalise know exactly what they’re conveying. This reprehensible phrase has deep political roots, as noted here, and its continued usage is deeply telling. It says nothing good; after all, the missing “baggage” is KKK membership.

Seems important to understand the actions and words as part of the qualifications of someone who wants to be Speaker of the House, in direct line of succession to the President of the United States.

We just won a just transition at General Motors. Facing the threat of a strike at its most profitable plant, GM has agreed to put battery production under the master UAW contract. This is what winning looks like. #StandUpUAW

This site has really been degraded for my purposes. Ever less useful information, feed clogged with ugly stuff, and I hate supplying content to the owner. Will be posting elsewhere youtube.com/watch?v=NTbNCe…
