Neat result by Melissa Troyer! The N400 is reduced in domain experts processing words related to their expertise, even when the word itself is unknown. When processing language, we preactivate conceptual knowledge even when we cannot predict specific words.

Pleased to share our paper, led by stellar undergrad honours student Sierra Sweet. Using sine-wave speech, we found that statistical learning--measured explicitly and implicitly--was similar regardless of whether stimuli were subjectively perceived as speech.

Last year, we had the opportunity to work with CT, a kind, bright, and friendly young woman with a unique form of sleep-related amnesia. Our paper is now out in Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience. (1/5) jt @NLadyka Rosanna Olsen Donald Mabbott Morgan Barense doi.org/10.1162/jocn_a…

New paper out in Developmental Science! We find that children learn a novel, uninstructed linguistic rule through exposure more quickly than adults. This suggests children have an advantage over adults in implicit language learning. doi.org/10.1111/desc.1…
