Make no mistake, these new intern class photos represent each residency programs commitment to diversity. A residency program can no longer make the argument we can't attract "qualified" Black applicants or applicants of color when it's obvious that other programs are successful.

Going to AMEC is so important for URIM’s. Especially third year medical students. Programs that truly value diversity will make sure they have representation there to meet you! Let me just say this: the first time I made a connection with my residency program was at AMEC. ❤️

Med students: Hold the hand of the patient who needs you. Trust your instincts, even when those around you don't respond in the same way or understand. Hold onto your empathy with both hands.

A CDC report this week on burnout in healthcare concluded with this: Solutions should emphasize “improving the work environment to support mental health, rather than asking workers to be more resilient…” Resilience isn’t the issue. The environment is.

Missing my support system extra today. Residency is hard.

I grow tired of hearing about “grit” and “resilience.” Terms that have been co-opted by institutions looking to transform systemic failures into individual problems.

I miss who I used to be. I’ve spent so long trying to hang on to bits and pieces. This past year has been full of so much growth but I’m so tired

4 things clinicians do that patients don’t see: • Answering a call from the ER at 4 am to guide care • Waiting on hold for an hour after insurance denied treatment • Coordinating care with their other doctors after work • Thinking about them in the spaces between visits

Burnout doesn’t ask for permission—it creeps in quietly, even when you’re doing what you love. Medicine is a calling, but it’s also a marathon. If you’re tired, you’re not weak—you’re human. Rest is not a reward. It’s a requirement. Take care of the healer too. 🧠💛 #Burnout
