Teaching unions are clear, this pay rise is not fully funded and will result in cuts to school budgets x.com/SchoolsWeek/st…

IFS says school budgets to be hit again to fund pay rises "Schools will still need to find savings totalling about 1% of their budgets to afford these rises, even after additional grant funding from government."

She doesn’t spell out what she means by “it”. Because she refers to an unfunded pay rise for teachers - creating a £400m shortfall - which will mean school cuts and redundancies. So yes, Labour have done it again.

The Education Secretary's broken promises are leaving schools £400 million in the red. Labour pledged they would hire 6,500 more teachers, but this funding shortfall today will leave 6,500 teachers’ jobs at risk. x.com/TheIFS/status/…

You have teachers going on strike because discipline is so bad - yet Bridget Phillipson is closing behaviour hubs. Teachers in this piece say phones in class are a problem, yet Starmer says a ban is "unnecessary"

Massive mistake - this will damage public services, blow an 11,000-nurse hole in the NHS workforce plan and make it impossible to get in to the professions for kids who don't go to uni.

Another day, another prejudiced Labour policy which will actively harm businesses, the economy and ladders of opportunity for young people. The kindest view here is that Labour are merely ignorant and not listening…

Bad news on Department for Education cutting funding for Level 7 apprenticeships. It will damage the prestige of apprenticeships, impact on lifelong learning and progression and the 🪜of opportunity. 👉 feweek.co.uk/level-7-appren…

What does this mean? Well, Level 7 is Masters Degree Level apprenticeships One of the biggest users of them is the NHS to train nurses to become specialists (District nurses, specialist community public health nurses, advanced forensic practitioner (custody or sexual offence)

📵 Banning mobile phones in schools is the right thing for children, teachers and parents 🏫 Research shows that schools with effective bans are more likely to be rated outstanding & deliver higher GCSE results 👇 An outright ban is the best approach bit.ly/3SbqOOo

Oh look, the very day AFTER announcing the end of higher apprenticeships for those over 21, the government *finally* answered my question from April on what this will mean for numbers... and it is a 90% cut

Sophie is spot on. Smartphones in schools are so harmful to children’s health and education - the evidence is overwhelming. If Labour want to do something about children’s mental health, they’d back our ban. Instead, they’ve dismissed it as an ‘unnecessary gimmick.’
