🚨New paper is out now!🚨 Acute inhibition of AQP4🚫 reduces brain water movement and glymphatic flow. Further confirmation that AQP4 is vital to glymphatic flow and a therapeutic target for brain edema🧠. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/gl…

Metabolic waste created by active neurons has to be flushed away through the brain's specialized waste-disposal system. Lauren Hablitz and Maiken Nedergaard discuss evidence that neuronal activity itself drives this waste clearance. go.nature.com/3wyGvaR

Day is swamped and a little rough, but then a grad student wins an award he really cares about. Today got instantly better. Especially cause I got to watch his face as he opened the email. 🙂

We are excited to share a new study from our lab, published today in Science Magazine. Using a genetically encoded bioluminescence protein we measured cerebral oxygen dynamics in the awake mouse brain drfelix Tempting2Speculate a thread: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

I am super excited to finally share my work of the past 5 years which mostly took place in secret. By accident, we found that a bioluminescent protein expressed in the mouse brain can be used as the first genetically encoded oxygen sensor to image oxygen dynamics in brain tissue.

A member of our lab passed away. Weiguo taught us anything biological could be measured, and was always down to try a new experiment. He worked with Dr. Nedergaard for 28 years, and I'm glad he was my coworker for 7. Daily lab life will not be the same. gofundme.com/f/assist-weigu…
