I'm excited to announce funding of the Kansas Center for Metabolism and Obesity REsearch (KC-MORE) KU Medical Center through a NIH P30 COBRE grant. The MPI team includes Drs. Steve Weinman, Joe Donnelly, and I. Exciting times for building obesity and metabolism research.

Received the best NOA today! We were awarded a NIH re-entry supplement to allow Dr. Amy Bodde to return to academia to continue her research focused on health promotion for individuals w/intellectual disabilities. She has an all female mentorship team including Sandra Billinger.


Our team is so excited to earn our ACSM Autism Exercise Specialist Certificates tomorrow. Thanks to David Geslak for providing this important training!

Investigators at KU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and KU Medical Center just received 5 years of funding to conduct the first clinical trial to examine the impact of dietary intake and weight loss on Alzheimer’s Disease risk factors in adults with Down Syndrome. So thankful for this opportunity and our team.

Big congrats to Medical student Danica Dodd who presented her first poster at KU Medical Center Internal Medicine Research Day. We can’t wait for her to publish her findings that increased fitness is associated with increased cognitive function in adults with Down syndrome.

Leaders of KU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center ‘s Brain Health in Down Syndrome program got to spend the morning with Chris Nikic, the first person with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman Triathlon at the #321FitKansas event.
