New AJIL and AJIL Unbound issue is out, with interesting open access articles. In my case note on ICJ’s judgement on merits in Ukraine v Russia (ICSFT and CERD), 31.01.2024, I offer mainly a historical take on the judgment. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Yesterday I successfully defended my PhD dissertation titled “Soviet and Russian Approaches to Democracy in International Law” at the University of Tartu School of Law. My deepest gratitude goes to my supervisor, Professor Lauri Mälksoo and to the opponent, Professor Angelika Nussberger .

Very happy about this publication and also proud that I contributed a chapter on the historiography of international law in Russia and some other successor states of the former Empire. Congratulations and thank you, dear @RandallLesaffer and Anne Peters!

Vol 22 (2023) of the Baltic Yearbook of Int’l Law Brill Law ➡️ LinkedIn is out open access. It contains articles which emerged from ESIL-SEDI 2023 Research Forum at University of Tartu. The Yearbook is a great example of cooperation between Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. brill.com/view/journals/…

Brilliant keynote address on 'great powers' (Soviet Union/Russia) and their attitude to 'small states' (CEE countries) analyzed through the prism of #internationallaw delivered by Prof. Lauri Mälksoo at #SWAIL conference in Vienna Central European University.

Yesterday, Anne van Aaken and I, with two of our volume’s authors Sevanna Poghosyan and Hent Kalmo, and moderated by University of Tartu Gregor Pihlak and patricia had a panel on ‘The Oxford Handbook of International Law in Europe’ in Tartu. Interesting to discuss when Europe is at crossroads

Niedersächische Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen elected me to its corresponding member. For me also a special honor because I was exchange student at Uni Göttingen law faculty in 1995-1996.
