Thomas Piketty, a hugely influential economist, explicitly says that colonial extraction and unequal exchange have caused global inequality. This is considered a fringe opinion in the mainstream economics community, so kudos to Piketty for rocking the boat.

Came across this 1768 Ottoman Turkish manuscript, the first pages of the text missing, described by the cataloger as "Diary of a journey from Damascus to Istanbul," sounds fascinating but I doubt I'll have time to explore rn so if anyone else wants to do so and report back...

I am sure it will turn out that all these years in Venice were simply a preparation for when I'll have to go to the Amazon estuary in 2027 😂
