I just felt like having a little apéro on my own today, so I made the most of the altana (which serves many a purpose). I so much needed this!! 🤩

Discovered this exhibition/installation focusing on Haitian art, religious Vodou practices & the legacy of slavery/colonialism. It's free to access & can be found at #ScuolaPiccolaZattere art centre on the Canale della Giudecca #Venice which also sponsors residencies for artists!

A bit too excited about swimming early this morning that I arrived one hour before the pool opened because I thought it was Monday 😐 Now waiting at the local bar, and sort of feel that an ethnography of "bar human faunas" in the lagoon would definitely be a valuable project 😂

I think it's because summer is coming, but I miss my daily Tejo crossings between Cais do Sodré and Cacilhas so much... "A vida é o que fazemos dela. As viagens são os viajantes. O que vemos, não é o que vemos, senão o que somos."

Thomas Piketty, a hugely influential economist, explicitly says that colonial extraction and unequal exchange have caused global inequality. This is considered a fringe opinion in the mainstream economics community, so kudos to Piketty for rocking the boat.

Came across this 1768 Ottoman Turkish manuscript, the first pages of the text missing, described by the cataloger as "Diary of a journey from Damascus to Istanbul," sounds fascinating but I doubt I'll have time to explore rn so if anyone else wants to do so and report back...

I am sure it will turn out that all these years in Venice were simply a preparation for when I'll have to go to the Amazon estuary in 2027 😂

This workshop was so much fun! I loved seeing familiar faces and making new friends, as much as discussing small-scale agriculture, economy, balance, growth, political economy and their practices and so much more. Thank you so much!
