Our session in West Heath this week was full of joy and laughter. We eased ourselves into the festive season by creating beautiful Christingles and pomanders. Everyone got really stuck in and showed such creativity. The National Lottery Community Fund Northfield NNS

This week Heidi from West Midlands Combined Authority chatted to us about a new community art project relating to the Camp Hill train line & Pineapple train station. Yesterday Stirchley Baths, we used stencils and paint to decorate diyas for Diwali, the festival of lights. The finished designs were absolutely beautiful, as you can see here. Taking inspiration from Canadian folk artist Maude Lewis, a lady who overcame a painful physical condition to transform every inch of her tiny home with joyful artwork, we welcomed in the Spring by painting some folk art birds to decorate our space at West Heath Community Centre.

Our avian theme continued at West Heath Community Centre with a special Pigeon Post Pen Pal session. We learned about the history of carrier pigeons before painting beautiful wooden pigeons and writing encouraging messages to send to participants at our Stirchley Baths group❤️

In Creativity Club, we continued using embroidery to add detail to our apron motifs. It was great to see people challenging themselves and experimenting with new techniques. June's Creativity Club was a lovely calm session. We added finishing touches to our aprons using fishtail leaf embroidery whilst others were working on mandalas which will be used to decorate coasters at the next session. 😎 Shake, Rattle & Roll 🪇We made shakers out of recycled tin cans and beautiful African fabric! 😍 We then used them in a lively movement session with Natalie and will also be bringing them to our Carnival at the MAC on Sat 20th July.
