I try to be apolitical on my work Twitter, but I don't think I've seen people in the hospital looking so flat for a long time. A lot of front line staff of all political persuasions look like they need a bit of TLC if we're going to get the best out of them.

Just thinking about how dysfunctional Beech would be if we led in the way politicians run the country. The national approach to deciding the future direction creates winners and losers. It alienates and wastes so much talent and good thinking. Got to be a better way.

I completely agree. As son of an RAF air mover and school volunteer, I've never felt I truly belong as a doctor. It used to feel like a disadvantage but now I think cutting through medical nonsense flattens hierarchy and has been an important part of Beech being successful.

I had already fallen in love with Iceland and then I saw the Icelandic word for defibrillator. Why have we chosen such a specialist term for a device we put in a public place?

It has been a long time since I've looked forward to a launch of anything this much. Email seems to destroy the time we spend with patients and lures us into thinking we are working hard when it rarely creates anything of true value.

Ahead of 12 weeks of being 'shielded' by working at home, I've cleared out my office. If there is an urgent need for space, I don't want someone else having to clear my mess. It's a marginal gain and I hope the situation isn't so dire it makes a difference.

So sad to hear of the passing of the great Murray Walker. He completely embodied the importance of having passion for your work. He brought motorsport to life for me as a child and has never been surpassed as a commentator.
