At the end of a significant week for world politics it’s time for a reappraisal of the UK’s place in the world. Now we must recognise that our interests lie in a Europe which shares our values, not in a USA which clearly does not. We have been making that point in Leeds today.

At the end of a week which has exposed the folly of the UK withdrawing from the European Union we have been on the streets of Leeds hearing views on Trump and what it means for us here in the UK. Conclusion? We share far more values with Europe than we do with Trump’s America.

We have far more in common with our European neighbours than we do with Trumps America.

Starmer makes a point often missed about ending freedom of movement. Migration figures were lower when we were in the EU. Because Europeans could live, work, study in the UK for as long as they wanted - and then leave. Now, migrants are more likely to move permanently. #PMQs
