Today marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.   To honour this significant moment in history and those who served, Leicestershire County Council will observe a two-minute silence at 12noon.   We invite everyone to join us in this act of remembrance.

Leicestershire County Council stood with the rest of the UK as we observed the two-minute silence at midday to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. We commemorate and honour all those who were part of this significant moment in history.

An evensong service to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day is being held at Leicester Cathedral at 5.30pm today. The service is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

A beacon will be lit at Bosworth Battlefield at 9.30pm tonight to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day - one of a series of similar events taking place across the length and breadth of the UK.
