A new paper from Ivan Ahel Lab about enzymes that efficiently ubiquitylate DNA and RNA in vitro and maybe in cells. With contribution from Orléans by vincent aucagne and a little bit myself. Part of a larger project on noncanonical Ub by DELTEX E3 ligases led by Kang Zhu as the 1st author.

The #ReedijkSymposium of the Leiden Institute of Chemistry was an amazing event. I had a great day and learned a lot at the talks and the posters. Thank you to all participants and especially to the organizers Irene Groot, @BonnetSylvestre and Yvonne Snellenberg.

Excited to see Julia Pols presenting their research in our group at #NWOCHAINS2024. They did a great job in giving a clear presentation on their PhD project on identifying new ligandable cysteines as antibacterial targets against MRSA. #proudPI #ChemBio #Antibiotics

The poster sessions are a highlight of #NWOCHAINS2024 but it is hard to get to all of them. The poster pitches were a great way to get a quick overview of the diverse topics including the research by Sean McKenna of LED3 hub (inactive account) on using "Active Learning for CCR2 inhibitor discovery"

🥳 Out now The EMBO Journal! Interferon induces a new class of p62 bodies, with antiviral & immunotherapy implications. p62 is usually linked to autophagy—but not here. These are driven by PARP14-mediated ADP-ribosylation & rely on ubiquitin-proteasome system. embopress.org/doi/full/10.10…

Anthony Leung (@leunglab) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Why it matters 👇 p62 bodies are key hubs for protein degradation & immune signaling—long linked to cancer & neurodegeneration. Our study shows interferon + PARP14-driven ADP-ribosylation rewires their formation, revealing a new immune-regulated condensate class.

Anthony Leung (@leunglab) 's Twitter Profile Photo

For #condensate folks 👀 Our study tackles a key gap: how condensate composition is regulated. These p62 bodies require PARP14—but it’s not just presence that matters. It’s PARP14’s enzymatic activity that drives formation. In fact, more PARP14 without activity ≠ condensation.
