SO excited to work with Vanessa Sherk @PhdSherk (CU-AMC) on our collaborative NSF grant, 'Determining the impacts of lacunar-canalicular remodeling of bone fracture toughness'. Lewis Cox (MSU) Lewco joins our team. Can't wait to get started!

We used AFM to map cortical bone modulus for labeled and non-labeled osteocyte lacunae, 5 mo and 22 mo mice. Perilacunar modulus shows a peak modulus within several hundred nm of lacunar wall. This peak was lower for labeled lacunae at both ages. Proud of @science_rux and team.

Happy to share our newest article in Bone. We used AFM and confocal laser scanning microscopy to assess perilacunar modulus gradation. Congrats @science_rux , @QazaalVahidi, Amir Darabi , Lewis Cox Let's try this thread thing. 1/n sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Backed by a three-year $700,000 grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation, MSU researchers are turning their expertise to an age-old medical problem: the weakening of bone that can lead to painful and disabling fractures among seniors and those with certain bone diseases. montana.edu/news/21719
