I will be presenting our work at the Butt Lab - Oxford lab on how GABAergic interneurons develop in cortical circuits, both in vivo and ex vivo, in early postnatal life in mice. We found that SST+ interneurons form different circuits early in development between S1 and V1. #SfN23

How do animals learn from naïve to expert? What role does dopamine play? Find out in our new paper by Samuel Liebana Aeron Laffere Chiara Toschi , Louisa Schilling, Jacek Podlaski, @matfritsche, Peter Zatka-Haas, Yulong Li Lab, Rafal Bogacz, Andrew Saxe biorxiv.org/content/10.110… (1/5)

New job for 2024? Lak Lab University of Oxford is hiring a (senior) tech/lab manager. Needed: neuro enthusiasm, lab or software skills & a relevant degree (undergrad or PhD). Contract 4 years, salary based on experience. Come work with my favourate people. Happy holidays & Plz RT.

New Unit Paper in Nature Neuroscience showing that a family of models of the brain learn more effectively than artificial neural networks in many tasks faced by animals mrcbndu.ox.ac.uk/publications/i… MRC BNDU, Oxford Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences University of Oxford

Excited that the workshop organized by Erin Grant, Sebastian Musslick and me has been accepted at #Cosyne2024! Leveraging advancements in rec tech, allowing for longitudinal population recs, we're set to test theories of learning. Join us as we connect theory and experiment – stay tuned!

Pre-doc students can join Gatsby for a summer to learn about the mathematical tools useful for ML & neuro ⬇️ I had a lot of fun co-teaching part of this course with Clémentine Dominé 🍊 last year, and am looking forward to this year's cohort!!

Excited to share the capstone work of my PhD, w/ Jeffrey Markowitz @Datta_Lab and Ashok Litwin-Kumar. We think it’s an exciting step in understanding how the brain implements reinforcement learning, at a neuronal and algorithmic level. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Excited to announce the 2nd Analytical Connectionism summer school! How can we mathematically understand neural network models of higher level cognition? Where: Flatiron CCN, New York When: Aug 12-23, 2024 Info: events.simonsfoundation.org/event/e070287e… Apply by May 17, travel awards available!

Proud to announce that in Sept I'll start as Assistant Professor at Chalmers University of Technology! Very grateful for my time Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit in Andrew Saxe. Exciting times ahead! If you are interested in the core principles of AI and bias in ML systems, keep an eye out for PhD/postdoc openings!

Very excited to announce openings for my first 2 lab members Chalmers University of Technology 1️⃣ PhD in theory of ML bias [chalmers.se/om-chalmers/ar…] 2️⃣ Postdoc in ML theory [chalmers.se/om-chalmers/ar…] Beautiful campus, a liveable city near an archipelago 🛶 Work closely with me to shape the lab! 🌱

Our paper on the effect of stimulus temporal regularity on visual decisions is out in its final form: nature.com/articles/s4146… Thanks to reviewers whose comments made it a better paper! @matfritsche Antara Majumdar 🧠👩🏽🔬💫 Samuel Liebana Lauren Strickland Rafal Bogacz.

Neural networks need a dorsal stream to learn structure in natural scenes! really proud of this work led by Jess Thompson
