I’m here at the geographical centre of Scotland! I walked here from the Mull of Galloway via Peterhead. 560 miles so far.

Close to Aberfeldy, Perthshire. An opportunity to mend and repair and regroup. Onwards towards Ardnamurchan on Sunday. Wonderful to relax as well.

It’s raining and it’s extremely midgey but wherever I pitch my tent, I make my home. Here on the shore of Loch Rannoch.

Wherever I pitch my tent, I make my home. Here on the head shore of Loch Laidon, Rannoch. It’s a wild and blustery evening and I’m cozily hunkered down. I’ve enjoyed a lovely day off walking through new country for me. Wonderful.

It’s going to be a self-care day. I’ve a raging headache & shivery ague. Plus, it’s not the weather to walk across Rannoch Moor. I’m dry, warm & comfortable, so I’m going to catch up with my journal & enjoy the peace. Oh, & keep my fluids up. 😊

2am and the rain is lashing my tent. It’s going to be bleak weather for walking to Glencoe along the edge of Rannoch Moor. The midges are fierce too. It’s a dig deep moment. Adventure huh? Why? 🤔

This man walked 21 miles today, across Rannoch Moor to Kinlochleven via Kingshouse. He looks cheerful… (Photo credit: a friendly Danish West Highland Way hiker)

Back again, looking down on West coast seas. I’ve walked here from Peterhead over on the east! Ardgour and the Ardnamurchan Peninsula await across the Corran Narrows. It’s been a fine walk from Kinlochleven, if soakingly wet to begin with.

I’m taking a couple of days off from walking. Ardnamurchan & the westernmost point of my adventure is only 4 days away & it’s tempting to race for the prize. I’m hobbling a little & need the rest. I’m 630 miles into my journey & there’s no question of me not completing it now. 😊

This is where I was a year ago today. I’d already been on Succoth Ward, the psychiatric ward in Lochgilphead hospital for six weeks. Where I am right now, 630 miles into my four corners expedition, is a testament to the fact - recovery is possible.

After a day in heavy squally rain & trudging through interminable bog, there’s nothing like getting the tent up, donning warm dry clothes & making a restorative hot drink. One of my simple but hugely rewarding pleasures. Here at Glendrian, Ardnamurchan.

03.30. I’m excited to reach the western point of my adventure today. I’m cocooned in my wee tent against the rain. I’ve a warm glow of a job pretty well done & there’s more to come. This undertaking is more significant than my others. At the age of 61, I’ve rediscovered joy.

I did it! Westernmost point of mainland Scotland. It was wild and atmospheric. A month since reaching the easternmost point at Peterhead.

I’m preparing for the final leg of my Four Corners expedition. I’ve walked 1105km so far, 23 less than planned. The changeable weather will challenge me as I traverse the demanding landscape of the Scottish Highlands & the empty north east Flow Country. Onwards to Dunnet Head!
