My heart breaks for the Filipino Community after the events of last night at the Lapu Lapu festival. The community is a big part of who we are in our city and greater Vancouver. At their core - kindness, family and community is most valued. My deepest condolences to all affected.

Every worker has the right to return home safely. Today we honour the memory of those who have died or been injured on the job. In 2024, 146 workers in BC died as a result of a workplace injury or occupational disease. Flags at City Hall are at half-mast in remembrance.

For Asian Heritage Month, we come together to recognize and honour the many diverse communities of Asian descent who call BC home. This year, we also mourn with the Filipino community and with those who lost loved ones in the tragic events at Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day Festival.

Red Dress Day honours missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people. Today we hang red dresses in windows and around the community as a harrowing reminder and as a call for justice. City of North Vancouver Hall will light up red in solidarity.
