I genuinely do not understand why it is not illegal for MPs to accept donations from anybody. They have large salaries and huge expenses, and both Westminster and constituency offices and staff provided at taxpayer expense.

100% agree with this. Nurses cannot accept hospitality or gifts (unless it's a box of biscuits to share!) for fear of it could dissuade objective treatment. Why should politics be any different? Politicians should not be up for sale (or more realistically, for rent!)
