On #IWD2025 we focus on the 122 million girls who remain out of school globally. In South Asia, teenage girls are three times more likely than boys to not be in school, employment or training. This is simply not right!

Fires in the Rohingya refugee camps can have devastating impacts, leaving children and their families homeless in an instant. Grateful to CERF - The UN's emergency fund for partnering with UNICEF to deliver emergency support that protects families and builds a safer future.

No girl should ever live in fear. From home to school, from the streets to the workplace, every space should be a safe space. Safety is a right, not a privilege. Let’s make it a reality. #GirlGoals

We have made impressive progress in reducing child malnutrition globally because of a shared commitment and sustained investment. But steep funding cuts will dramatically reverse these gains and put the lives of millions more children at risk. unicef.link/4hGUCfX

Improving children's health and saving lives IS POSSIBLE. Over the last 20 years, South Asian countries have greatly reduced preventable deaths: maternal deaths by 67%, newborn deaths by 50%, and stillbirths by 47%.

The long-standing UNICEF/SAARC partnership is a powerful example of regional collaboration driving meaningful change. SAARC’s leadership has been key in uniting South Asia around a shared vision: a future where every child and young person not only survives—but thrives.

Thanks to Tamil Nadu Directorate of Public Health & Preventive Medicine for showing me how they collect health data from households in Tambaram. They have already found some unvaccinated children and are increasing the number of kids who get jabbed. Great example of using data to save children's lives!

I enjoyed my conversation with colleagues from ADB on the sidelines of the #WHS2025. We discussed how ADB’s continued support to UNICEF plays a pivotal role in advancing transformative change for children and young people across South Asia.  Asian Development Bank

With a quarter of the world’s children living here, South Asia holds the hopes of the next generation. While countries in the region have made great strides in improving the health and wellbeing of children and mothers, urgent challenges remain. #WHS2025

After the 2023 earthquake in western Afghanistan, UNICEF and partners stepped in to help the community rebuild. The kids are now thriving and taking life forward. The community is resilient and the shock has worn off. And the next steps will be theirs to celebrate!

Last week I was in Afghanistan and witnessed the return of Afghans from Iran. Among them were children on their own with no place to go. Please listen and help us support them - more are arriving every day.
