Recently, members of Local 3217 traveled to Oshkosh ARFF to complete the final inspection on three new foam units. These vehicles will be primarily stationed at Dulles International Airport (IAD), enhancing our ability to respond swiftly and effectively to ARFF incidents.

On this day in 2007, nine fire fighters made the ultimate sacrifice responding to a fire at the Charleston (SC) Sofa Super Store. The tragedy led to more robust mutual aid agreements, added training opportunities, and additional apparatus.

Earlier, units from IAD responded to an aircraft emergency shortly after takeoff. The aircraft safely returned to the airport; but, due to heavy landing, the brakes on both main landing gear assemblies both caught fire. Crews extinguished. For further inquiries, contact MWAA PIO

Today, units from DCA Fire & Rescue responded to a HazMat incident involving an overturned fuel tanker on airport grounds. Upon arrival, crews found the tanker on its side with an active fuel leak. For further inquiries, please contact the MWAA Public Information Officer.

President Scarpone presented Brother Brown with his retirement axe, and AFC Dowdy with his plaque after 20 years of service. Well wishes in retirement and thank you for protecting the airport and surrounding communities for these years.

IAFF Local 3217 members, alongside our partners at @dcfireandems and DC Police Department , responded to an overturned boat near the anchorage zone by the Washington Monument. Five adult males were rescued; one was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

This evening, Engine 303 responded to Fairfax County for a fire in an apt building. E303 arrived as 3rd due engine, secured a secondary water supply, and established the FDC connection. E303 assisted with getting the attack line in place and operated until fire was under control
