Twice-yearly lenacapavir just won FDA approval for PrEP - closest thing we have to an HIV vaccine. Trials showed ≥99.9% protection But approval doesn’t equal access. The science delivered. Now policy has to. apnews.com/article/hiv-pr…

People are getting upset about this, but the topic is not the core issue. The entire family of JAMA journals is increasingly filled with low-quality observational studies. I suspect that the root cause is poor peer review.

“I haven’t eaten since last night and now they’re canceling my surgery?” Happens all the time. A new meta-analysis finds little evidence that strict NPO rules reduce aspiration risk. It’s time to question the dogma, and start building risk-stratified, patient-friendly

Starchy carbohydrates aren’t bad but most people overeat them b/c when they are combined w/fats they go from “yum” to “YUM!” & when combined w/fats & sugar many people forget themselves like a meth addict who just scored. Food combinations matter for satiety & removing the brake.

Antibiotic Steward Bassam Ghanem 🅱️C🆔🅿️🌟 My personal feeling is that "Taxonomist" should be added to the DSM IV. Im not sure that any available pharmacotherapy could help treat the diagnosis. But I hypothesize that some of the atypical antipsychotics might help. That would be a good RCT to conduct.

We've not been talking about root causes in healthcare...why do a third of our nation's children now have pre-diabetes or diabetes? We've got to talk about school lunch programs, not just putting every 6-year-old on Ozempic.

Want to know why those other countries have lower brand drugs prices than us ? They don't have PBMs. We are the ONLY country that uses PBMs. Insane

Last month I explained why aluminum adjuvants are safe: tiny doses, nearly a century of use, cleared by the kidneys like dietary aluminum. Now we have a landmark study of 1.22 million Danish children (births 1997-2018) followed to age 5, with a check to age 8. Result: no

The FDA just sent WHOOP a warning letter about our feature, Blood Pressure Insights. Let me explain why this is a misguided move from the FDA and why it also undermines health and innovation in the United States. 🧵

Yes-Millions of women could have enjoyed the health benefits of hormone replacement, but tragically were never offered it because of dogma about risks. Tomorrow, FDA will convene experts to discuss the medical evidence and nuances of HRT for perimenopausal women--join us online!

The people who dominate the conversation often have the least to say. Being the loudest voice in the room doesn’t gain respect. It crowds out the contributions of those who speak at a lower volume. It’s better to leave people wanting to hear more than wishing they’d heard less.

If you’ve ever had a completely bonkers schedule then finally got a break & got sick after a few days of rest, congratulations: You learned that cortisol enhances immune system function in the short term. Taper(!) from intense to vacation. Keep your mornings active.

I am proud to partner with Dept. of Agriculture and HHS.gov to establish a clear, federally recognized definition of what constitutes an ultra-processed food. This critical work will help shape our efforts to get at the root causes of chronic, diet-related illness and will empower us to create
