A freak storm hit the Southern Los Padres last night generating over 2,500 lightning strikes & 4 small fires on the SW Mount Pinos District. The 8-acre Corral Fire, 2-acre Round Fire, & 1/10-acre Highjack Fire are now 100% contained. The 1/2-acre Burgess Fire is 90% contained.

A vehicle collision on Hwy 154 near Paradise Road ignited a 1/2 acre vegetation fire. Firefighters have stopped the spread, using hose lines, hand tools, and water drop via coordination with SBC ASU Copt 964. Hwy 154 is closed in both directions for the next hour.

Mount Pinos Ranger District firefighters stop multiple fires, aided by the PMC & Cuddy fuel breaks. Thanks to their pre-season fuels reduction work, firefighters quickly contained the 7/7 Alto Fire & the 7/2 Cuddy Fire, both threatening the community of Pine Mountain Club.

Work along E. Camino Cielo begins today and will run thru early September. The project will focus on stabilizing an earth wall, fixing drainage & reinforcing soil slopes. The project is funded through the Federal Highways Admin to address areas impacted by 2023 storm damage.
