#AHaydnADay for May 2nd Op.20 continues with No.2 in C major. It looks like the sunshine is going to hold up for one more day here in the UK. But Haydn brings sunshine every day!

#NowSpinning Rattle’s Birmingham Mahler 2. As is often the case with recordings lauded by the British press, this one draws both jubilation and ire. I’ve never *not* enjoyed it and look forward to my reaction now.

#NowSpinning Some Ravel, Berlioz and Debussy with Antal DorƔti. Although mono recordings, they are MERCURY mono, which means they are actually very good. The performances are highly spirited.

#NowSpinning The fabulous John Williams score for Return of the Jedi. This one contains many, many of the great high points in the saga. And the LSO’s playing is totally luminous. #MayThe4thBeWithYou

#NowSpinning Dorati’s mono Tchaikovsky Fifth Symphony from Minneapolis. The first movement is fast, furious and tense. I am loving this.

#AHaydnADay Fir May 6th I am posting a wee bit early, thanks to a busy morning coming up. We complete Op.20 with No.6 in A major. On to Op.33 after that!

#NowSpinning Ives Symphony No.2 with MTT at the Concertgebouw. There’s a nice sense of discovery here, presumably with the Concertgebouw playing music that can’t have been all that familiar to them.
