Last week, Kebetkache hosted community activists from Saint Louis🇸🇳& Lumière Synergie pour le Développement team in Nigeria’s Niger Delta. The Learning visit was aimed at building the capacity of local fishing communities on energy transition &raise awareness on the impacts of oil & gas exploitation.

During the week-long visit, we took our 🇸🇳 comrades into the heart of Ogoniland—to witness firsthand the enduring scars of over six decades of oil extraction. From the first documented spills in the 1970s to the catastrophic Bodo disasters of 2008–09.

These communities have endured environmental degradation, health crises, women marginalization and socio-economic upheaval. The team also visited site of the recent explosion of the Trans-Niger pipeline in Mogho community, to see its devastation.
