We don’t need warehouses of failure we need: legal aid lawyers, drug rehab. mental health facilities, better care system, fewer school exclusions/non attenders, bail hostels, approved premises, urban open prisons, women’s centres & imaginative leadership. theguardian.com/society/2023/s…

Outstanding public service from ⁦The Guardian⁩ culminating in perfect summary: prisons full, badly run, crime-ridden, no place to work & doing harm. Getting tough, building more penal dustbins & dragging anyone off the street to work there won’t cut it. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

All dogs who come to our office are now given the official job title of “director of entertainment”. Last week we averaged 6 dogs a day, and while they can’t answer the phones and do the accounts, they do add to our culture of fun and kindness.

I’ve seen prison officer tracing on 5 continents and what we have in England and Wales is the shortest and poorest - and by all accounts getting worse. I’ve yet to see any decent journalism on an issue which is at the heart of the prison crisis.

One in three young people become homeless within two years of leaving care. If you walk the streets of London and have a conversation with homeless adults, it's guaranteed that the majority have been in care as children. The same is true in our jails. That tells you all you need

Deeply moving speech from Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh. If there justice arrives in this world, it will be because of people like her. If Palestine becomes free, it will be due to the women of Gaza
