Remarkable how study participation bias does not only change trait means/prevalences, but also changes how human traits correlate (r, rG) / causally relate to each other. Many links are weaker if participation bias is not taken into account! Study led by Tabea Schoeler

1/7 How do genetic variants affect co-expression patterns and how can this help us to interpret consequences of GWAS hits? In our latest preprint, we use scRNAseq to find such associations by mapping co-expression QTLs (co-eQTL)! doi.org/10.1186/s13059…

Here we present an unbiased longitudinal overview of the single-cell immune response after acute ST-Elevated Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) and compare this to controls (1/8) medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

I am happy to share the preprint on our single cell and multi-omics study of coronary syndromes. We find factors across data types that related to disease course and outcome. Nice team work with Corinna Kami Pekayvaz Monique van der Wijst Lude Franke Irene van Blokland RoyOelen @nicolai_leo

Full summary statistics for our UKB-PPP GWAS of 1,463 circulating proteins are now available at synapse.org/#!Synapse:syn5… This includes full cohort (n=52,363), discovery (n=34,557), & African ancestry (n=931) analyses. More subpopulations (AMR, CSA, MID, EAS) available next week.

This afternoon at #eshg2023, Roy Oelen presents his poster at 3.45 (P06.018.B) on the single-cell analysis of myocardial infarction, available as preprint at medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

Today Robert Warmerdam at #ESHG2023 will present interim results of eQTLGen phase 2 (Clyde auditorium, 11.30 - 11.45): a genome-wide trans-eQTL analysis, with implications for many molecular QTL studies. Interested to join eQTLGen? Get in touch or go to eQTLGen.org

Tijs van Lieshout at #ESHG2023 shows that germline genetic risk factors in breast, prostate, colorectal and skin cancer can be linked to established somatic driver genes through tissue-specific gene regulatory networks. He is presenting poster P25.011.C from 13.00 - 14.00h today.

Martijn Vochteloo at #ESHG2023 has results on single-cell MetaBrain: a federated single-cell consortium for cell-type specific eQTL analysis in brain. He is presenting poster P21.019.C from 13.00 - 14.00h today. Interested in joining the MetaBrain consortium? Get in touch!

The overlap between GWAS hits in cancer and established somatic driver genes is quite low. We observe that tissue-specific co-expression networks link the positional candidate genes in cancer GWAS to known somatic driver genes. Tijs van Lieshout explains below what we found:

Robert Warmerdam will present his work today on eQTLGen phase 2 at the ASHG: a full trans-eQTL meta-analysis across many blood cohorts and ancestries. Should you be interested in already working with interim freezes of eQTLGen phase 2: please get in touch with us!

Lude Franke (@ludefranke) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Out now in Genome Biology: Martijn Vochteloo developed a method to identify 'principal interaction components' that maximise explained interaction variance of eQTLs. He is an excellent PhD student and looking for a postdoc position in Germany. If you have one, please contact him!

Krista Freeman and Kaur Alasoo show in LCLs that trans-eQTLs can be highly cell-type specific. We are happy to have contributed with eQTLGen phase 2: we replicated some of these, but with much smaller effect-sizes in blood.
