NEW: we need to talk about NHS staff retention. At a time when Britain’s healthcare system is acutely short of workers, *1 in 7* UK-trained doctors are practising overseas. No other developed country is like this, which immediately tells you there’s a problem. Let’s dig deeper:

Critics of striking medics argue that everyone is suffering at the moment. But doctors & nurses have had it worse. Recent inflation has taken the average UK worker’s real wages 2.5% below their 2009 level, but earnings are down 13% for nurses and 24% (!) for junior doctors.

Dr Tony Goldstone Thank you for pension AA helper. 1st year 10PA consultant from 60% LTFT registrar. No RPSS or TRS for last year NHS Pensions. Looks like £40k AA charge despite carryover from last year. Surely this is discriminatory against female doctors who are more likely 1/2

1/ Oh dear Dr Luke Evans MP In Feb👇 you were told 70,000 RPSS issued with remaining 60,000 "majority should be issued by end of Feb 25" That position was itself a *complete disgrace* - all *should* have been issued by the statutory deadline October 2024. So today's update...

Great chart below/right from Institute for Fiscal Studies about ridiculous tax cliff at £100k cuasing *obscene* marginal tax rates. But you can draw a very similar chart (left) for higher earning doctors affected by the stupid & ill-conceived #taper which is **really damaging** waiting list

It’s not just the taper that needs changing. This first year consultant is expecting an AA tax charge of £40k, going from 60% registrar to FT consultant 😬, without any overtime. Considering dropping sessions.
