Nice visualisation of the hamstrings thanks to Daniel Messer. Note the variability in CSA of each muscle belly down the thigh. Perhaps why surface EMG of medial and lateral compartments gives such variable results?

Contrary to popular belief, hip- and knee-based hamstring exercises do not preferentially develop the proximal or distal regions of the hamstrings! Well done Steph Lazarczuk 🇺🇦

Modelled changes in VO2max over time with different training interventions. Log-linear response Haven't fully digested this entire behemoth meta yet (aggregating 353 studies & ~6000 participants!), but this might be my new favourite figure 👏

Ranking gluteal exercises based on EMG amplitudes provides very different interpretation than rankings based on muscle forces! Excellent talk from Tyler Collings.

Fiber-type distribution is pre-determined and cannot be changed! That postulate sparked my interest in human physiology back in 2008. How could this be true if everything else in the body is so plastic and ever-changing? We, therefore, also assessed this in 111 training studies.

We move in 'loops' & the loops aren't quite so easily understood (but they are also less misleading). The loop below is the sort of thing (very rough) that we get with a vertical jump. As you know, the loop involves a SSC which potentiates the concentric forces. But... 1/n

Lots of advice to leave collars off when benching. It's ok with light weights, mostly ok with metal plates, especially thin ones but sometimes the BB falls across the face or neck when you fail. Sometimes the plates don't fall off... youtube.com/watch?v=y1zB-B…

Why 'functional training' is still ill-defined. Look up the history of the word 'upmost'. In 1979 this wasn't a word. It has become one (it gets a gig in most dictionaries) because muppets, who never read, mis-heard utmost and started their own word. 1/n
