In 2021, the City of St Albert and Sturgeon County received support through the Climate Adaptation Challenge funded in part by Alberta Government. It offered free capacity building support to help participants understand how climate change was impacting their community.


The Town of Hinton received $79,500 for the completion of a Community Climate Risk Assessment. This project was funded by Alberta Government, through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program. Learn more: bit.ly/3yLF22i

In 2022, the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre created the Electric Vehicle Charging Program, funded in part by Natural Resources and Alberta Government. The Town of Bruderheim received $80,000 to support the Resilient Rurals collaborative partnership and retain two Project Assistants. This project was funded by Alberta Government through the Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program. Learn more: bit.ly/4drRgw5



In 2023, MCCAC delivered the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative, funded in part by Natural Resources and Alberta Government. Albertans were provided with opportunities to test-drive electric vehicles and get their questions answered by experts. Learn more: bit.ly/3AsCZRi



In 2023, MCCAC received a $18 million investment from the Alberta Government's Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction Fund. Funding will support energy efficiency retrofits in community buildings, energy management services, and community emissions capacity-building support.




In 2022, as part of the Municipal Energy Manager Program, the City of Airdrie hired a Municipal Energy Advisor to benchmark municipal facilities, identify energy savings opportunities, and implement greenhouse gas emission-reducing projects.




In 2023, MCCAC began delivery of the Net Zero Community Accelerator in Alberta. It's a partnership of QUEST Canada, Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources, Community Energy Association, and Eco-Ouest Canada. This year, Municipal Climate Change Action Centre celebrated its 15-year anniversary. Fueled largely by Alberta Government, the Action Centre has driven real change across our province.
