Golf clap. Canada's largest ever seizure of opium. You know you're just making things worse, right? You know that seizing opium, starting in 1908, is how we got here, to fentanyl & benzodope, right? Smoking opium seems positively quaint & genteel by today's standards.

There’s a weird feeling that I think other outreach workers might get after a really cold night like last night. When a client gets into your car and asks to crank the heat up because they are shivering and cold. I feel bad because I was comfortably warm already, and didn’t think

Poilievre lost. We knew he would. So did he. He didn't propose the motion to win. He did it for propaganda & to build his movement. And it worked. This motion was another brick in his road to become PM. After all, moral panic helped elect Mackenzie King. cbc.ca/news/politics/…

JUST OUT: An impressive study in JAMA Psychiatry concludes that the #Oregon decrim initiative (and a similar law in #Washington) DID NOT result in an increase in #overdose fatalities. Evidence-based studies were & are crucial to sustaining support for #decrim jamanetwork.com/journals/jamap…

What I never heard in my decades of homelessness and drug use: "hey everyone, let's head to the beach, splash park and use our drugs around kids and families. I heard it's a hot day today so don't forget to put in your sunblock." Can you hear how ridiculous that sounds? People

WOW. After watching recent dehumanizing debates in North Van and Richmond, the Nanaimo Area Public Safety Association said “hold my beer” and pulled a NIMBY power move. Did anyone actually read the new “report” from NanaimoPublicSafety about drug deaths and the impact of street

Today, BC gov announced they're making public drug use illegal. Public use has not increased because of decrim. People use outside for lack of alternatives. We've been calling for more OPSs, treatment & housing for 25 yrs. If we'd been listened to, there'd be no issue today.

I’m so worried about the state of our public discourse right now. We need to be able to have nuanced conversations on tough issues like drug policy, because we are in the midst of a terrible drug toxicity crisis that kills 22 people in Canada every day.

There were 3 reviews done about CTS in Ontario that were released yesterday and not one of them says that sites should close. What is the purpose of spending time, energy and money on these if government is not going to listen to the outcomes of these reviews or even evidence?

Gillian Kolla, PhD (@gilliankolla) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We have NEVER had enough treatment services to meet the need during the last 6 years of Conservatives in power in Ontario. Pretending that 20 beds is going to be enough as they force the closure of sites that save thousands from overdose is incompetent and totally reprehensible.

There are around 30,000 Mental Health Act apprehensions of around 20,000 people each year in BC. That's the highest rate of all provinces in Canada. We are already relying heavily on involuntary care. We need to examine whether it is effective. bc.cmha.ca/news/involunta…
