One of 9 goals by gun full forward Trent Castles as MCUE Goannas remained the only undefeated AFL Riverina team by beating GggmlionsFNC by 51 points at #Mangoplah. AFL NSW/ACT - Southern NSW @marcgep24

Wild celebrations at #Mangoplah as Trent Castles kicks his 1000th career goal early in MCUE Goannas’ AFL Riverina game v Wagga Tigers, prompting a spontaneous crowd invasion. Quite an extraordinary feat, especially these days. Gotta love country footy!

Great day at #Mangoplah with senior & junior football & netball all playing on the one day. Plenty of highlights incl MCUE Goannas’ great win in the 1sts, opening of new 2nd oval, the country atmosphere with a big crowd & Ben Edyvean breaking Coolamon Rovers’ games record.

As a COVID lockdown disrupts the AFL NSW/ACT competitions, one thing is certain – MCUE Goannas’ Trent Castles will win the AFL Riverina goalkicking. He has 71, 29 clear of Coolamon Rovers’ Joe Redfern & will be the first Goannas’ player for 32 years to win the league goalkicking.

Confirmation tomorrow that AFL NSW/ACT Riverina & Farrer competitions will both have a 2-week football & netball finals series with 1 v 4 & 2 v 3 then the 2 winners to meet in the grand finals at Narrandera & Robertson Oval, Wagga, respectively should COVID-19 restrictions allow.

Footy’s back in the #Riverina & with the season proper just weeks away, trial games are in full swing. MCUE Goannas, with Trent Cohalan calling the shots, beat CharlesSturtUni FNC, led by Travis Cohalan, tonight 14.7 (91) to 5.6 (36); Trent Castles taking this “specky” & kicking 5 goals.

Touching tributes paid to the service and sacrifice of those who went to war by some of #Riverina’s football clubs at the weekend. MCUE Goannas & Coolamon Rovers wore commemorative #ANZAC jumpers. #LestWeForget

From agony to ecstasy … full-time scoreboard shows a draw & players all downcast. Then the goal umpires confer & MCUE Goannas in fact have won by a point v Wagga Tigers & the delight is obvious. The visitors nearly raise the roof singing the club song. Gotta love country footy.

Clubs in AFL Riverina have cleaned up at the annual NSW AFL Football Society awards with Wagga Tigers winning the Harry Hedger Award for best historical work for the comprehensive 1887-2021 history book and MCUE Goannas taking out the Gus McKernan Award for best club yearbook.
