The Chesapeake Bay’s blue crab population dropped in 2025, though experts say this is not due to overfishing. Pollution, habitat loss, and predators such as invasive blue catfish all threaten the species. buff.ly/Ky28DbV @ChesBayProgram

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. Will you pledge to refuse single-use plastics? buff.ly/CEiVMaG

This morning, we responded to reports of ~8,000-10,000 dead menhaden in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Low oxygen levels were found and are the likely cause, linked to natural summer turnover. Crews are monitoring and collecting samples. No health risk to the public. #MDEnvironment

One easy way to reduce single use plastic in your daily life is to stop using plastic wrap. Put leftovers in a reusable container. Take it a step further and next time you head to your favorite restaurant take your own food storage container to bring home your leftovers!
