Jantioquia (January in Antioquia) is back- a regular annual feature 2016 to 2020 then 3 years missing (mostly pandemic) now we’re glad to be back with clients from all over the world in 2024.

As part of Jantioquia 2024 we visited Urrao and Caicedo. Some coffee growing here up to 2100m and above. Together with Narino some of the highest grown coffee in Colombia (or anywhere for that matter). Very scenic, isolated, beautiful enchanting landscape.

Cycle 2 Jantioquia (January in Antioquia) revived after 4 year hiatus. Clients from all over the world join us for a specialty coffee week in Antioquia, 2nd biggest coffee producing department in Colombia.

28 years ago today I founded Mercanta. A LOT has changed since then, some good, some bad. A couple of my favourite sayings attached here.

Some nice memories from the recent SCA Chicago, which turned out to be the biggest ever SCA show by attendance. I think about 18,000.

New Mercanta Singapore office underway with requisite cupping table. I’ll miss Duxton Hill (being our first office in Singapore) but North Canal Road is an excellent central location which I’m looking forward to visit.

Inauguration of new Mercanta Singapore office

Transparency is a theme of the Mercanta Roasting Competition right down to the ballot box. All roasters compete using exactly the same coffee.

Raw coffee prices (commodity and specialty) have essentially doubled from 2024 to 2025. 20% adjustment sounds conservative on the current trajectory. Roasters with lengthy cover (from reliable suppliers) may be able to postpone price increases but that’s a matter of when not if
