I have no news about my detained father in Syria. Like millions of Syrians, I’m torn between hope & fear. We’re searching through harrowing videos, clinging to any chance. Yet, Key international humanitarian organisations are absent. The weight of waiting is heavier than ever

Sudanese citizens were among those detained in Assad's torture prisons, according to a survivor now living in Lebanon. He tells me his father and brother-in-law were thought to have ended up in Sednaya: middleeasteye.net/news/sudanese-…

Today, the body of Syrian activist Mazen al-Hamada was found. He was tortured in 2012 before his release and departure from Syria. Mazen disappeared in 2020 after being coerced by the Syrian regime’s embassy in Berlin to return to Syria.

That win-win is called disaster capitalism—it happens when companies use disasters and war zones as new markets to boost profits at the expense of local communities. Plenty of past examples to show why that approach poses risks to Syrians: shorturl.at/vsE3q

My heart aches for Dania, the wife of journalist Ayman Al-Jadi, one of the five journalists killed in Gaza last night. Ayman was waiting at the hospital as his wife went into labor with their first child. He never had a moment of joy—married during the war without celebration,

Lebanon today is awash with hope. The combined efforts of the opposition have brought to power a president and prime minister who are bent on implementing reforms. Long road ahead, but this is nothing short of a tsunami, and a victory for October 17.

No, Tehran looks like Tehran. Europe is not the benchmark or standard for modernity and cleanliness. Stop this reductive, orientalist framing. Something doesn’t have to be European for it to be valuable and worthy of admiration.
