4th and final time presenting at ATS RTS Jackson this morning. Easily one of the most rewarding papers I’ve written here. From 2 Cor 4:10-11, I argue that the minister is a “sign act” of Christ’s death and resurrection as Paul applies Isa 53 language to speak of his ministry.

“The ultimate purpose of the Bible is to generate and govern a covenant people… What Scripture is ultimately for is enabling communion— covenant fellowship with the Triune God who bespoke it and about whom it bespeaks.” ~ Kevin VanHoozer, Mere Christian Hermeneutics

“The hidden life of [the Triune] God – precisely in its inaccessibility & completeness—is the ground of creaturely well-being.” ~ John Webster, God without Measure, V1

“The Trinitarian setting of a doctrine of salvation thus has much to do with the matter of assurance. Salvation is secure because the works of the Redeemer and the Sanctifier can be traced to the inner life of God, behind which there lies nothing.”

"He is so new, so fresh in excellency, every day of new, to these that search more and more in him, as if heaven could furnish as many new Christs (if I may speak so) as there are days betwixt him and us, and yet he is one and the same” (Heb 13:8)

Wrapping up my 7 part sermon series on Habakkuk this PM at one of my favourite congregations. It’s been good for my soul.

One thing that is missing in modern ethics is a discussion on the means of grace (Word, sacrament, and prayer). They are discussed in nearly every work of Reformed ethics, including the catechisms, as the means whereby God strengthens and encourages our moral life.

Let none be your love and choice, and the flower of your delights, but your Lord Jesus. Look into the bottomless depths of loveliness, sweetness, beauty, excellency, glory, goodness, grace, and mercy, that are in Christ. ~ Samuel Rutherford

One of many heart breaking stories coming out of the plane crash in India. One life to live, twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.

“The half-informed man is not the man who knows only the half of things, but the man who only half knows things. Know what you have resolved to know; cast a glance at the rest. Leave to God, who will look after it, what does not belong to your proper vocation.” ~ Sertillanges

Augustinian theosis: "God wants to make you a god; not by nature, of course, like the one whom he begot; but by his gift and by adoption. For just as he through being humbled came to share your mortality; so through lifting you up he brings you to share his immortality."

Submission to truth is the binding condition for communion with it. Truth will not give itself to us unless we are first rid of self and resolved that it shall suffice us. ~ A. G. Sertillanges
