This week’s RIG member profile is Christine Fortney, winner of the 2019 New Investigator award for her program of research based on the symptom experiences of critically-ill infants in the NICU.

Dr. Fortney is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Nursing where she studies symptom trajectories and medical burden in infants in the NICU, and effect of parent perceptions on decision-making, coping, and distress.

Dr. Fortney just completed a K23 from NINR that found differences in perceptions of symptom expression between mothers and fathers, as well as White and non-White parents. She is also the Chair Elect for the Symptom Science RIG and is running for MNRS secretary.

This week’s RIG member profile is Eileen Danaher Hacker, winner of the 2019 Distinguished Researcher award for her program of research focusing on fatigue, physical activity, exercise interventions, and quality of life following intensive cancer therapy.

Eileen Danaher Hacker, PhD, APN, AOCN, FAAN is a Professor and Department Chair, Science of Nursing Care, at Indiana University School of Nursing, and Visiting Professor at Ulster University.

Dr. Hacker's current pilot work is testing feasibility and preliminary effects of a free-living physical activity intervention on fatigue, functional ability, muscle strength, physical activity, and QoL in people with multiple myeloma treated with stem cell transplantation.
