As Vladimir Kara-Murza said to Steve Cohen, "The worst fear of a political prisoner is to be forgotten." We are so happy to see the day when Vladimir, Paul, Evan, and Alsu are coming home to the embrace of their friends & family. Read Steve Cohen's statement here: csce.gov/press-releases…

Foreign policy: Trump should not be taken literally - but he should be taken seriously. The USA’s adversaries (shared with UK) now sleep less easy in their beds. That includes Putin. The next Senate majority Leader (Wed vote) & GOP House leadership will help determine outcomes…

No secret Chinese, Iranian, N Korean & Russian intel officers/agents operate in UK. Key is countering & maximising opportunities from attempted incursions. A given, public figures are targets. That’s the hard reality. If NOCs they should be arrested. Diplomats should be ejected

In light of protests and continuing reports of violence in #Georgia, the Chair of the OSCEPA’s human rights committee, Lucie Potuckova (CZE), & Rapporteur Carina Ödebrink reiterate call to uphold fundamental freedoms. Today they issued the following statement: oscepa.org/en/news-a-medi…

UK Ambassador to USA needs security, trade, politics & diplomatic experience - and a hotline to PM. Lord Mandelson meets all these tests. He also understands the folly to the UK national interest of those advocating for the ‘false choice’ of choosing either the USA or EU on trade

Mark Pritchard MP (@mpritcharduk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I know the importance of the US/UK security relationship. A partnership that saves American lives everyday. UK is, in some respects, the junior partner, but there are skills & capabilities where the USA looks to UK for expertise. Security is too important for clickbait politics

USA will provide security to 🇺🇦 but will need to be paid for directly or indirectly. No US ground troops in 🇺🇦 but could still mean US air cover, missile defence etc being deployed. But is this a security guarantee? This is where UK/EU needs to step up. A new hybrid defence model

Mark Pritchard MP (@mpritcharduk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

PM Starmer might want to call out Trump over White House ‘reserve position’ on 🇺🇦 security guarantees. Trump is playing hard ball but truth is US companies/shareholders want security guarantees before investing billions into 🇺🇦 The 🇺🇦 risk profile needs US ‘security underwriting’

Mark Pritchard MP (@mpritcharduk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Apart from 🇺🇦 security guarantees, the Trump geo-outlook or ‘in-look’ raises wider existential security questions for Europe & UK. Not only NATO & whether an Article 5 trigger would still be applied but also the application of US nuclear umbrella. An opportunity for UK & France?

Mark Pritchard MP (@mpritcharduk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Excellent interview by PM Laura Kuenssberg He is right on Ukraine. He is right to reassure. He is also right to say UK does not have to choose between USA and Europe. A ‘false choice’. Trump is also right to expect EU/NATO to do more on defence spending & Ukraine

Mark Pritchard MP (@mpritcharduk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Not sure if Trump plays chess but Putin does Russia always going to veto a 🇬🇧/🇫🇷 military presence in 🇺🇦. But if not USA/🇬🇧/🇫🇷 or other NATO countries offering security in 🇺🇦who? Perhaps no-one? Moscow seeks to set terms for peace. Will Trump concede over 🇬🇧🇫🇷 security guarantee?

Does Reform have a Ukraine problem? All over the country Councils, of all political colours, have continued to show solidarity with Ukraine by choosing to fly the 🇺🇦 flag. Apparently, Reform Councils now reluctant to do so? Why? Who benefits from this lack of public support….?

Iran summoned UK Ambassador to Tehran March 2025 - following accusations by UK officials that Iran was interfering in UK internal affairs. Completely prescient and accurate. However, even though Iranian-backed terror plot foiled by UK police FCDO yet to summon Iran Ambassador 😳

Was raised in Hereford concerned over SAS allegations. If true, will be a minority, doesn’t reflect professionalism of majority. Before rush to judgement let Inquiry do its work. IF oversight of SF needed better undertaken by new Judicial Reviewer not Parl Intelligence Committee?

After years of saying No, I will now support recognition of a #Palestinian state if vote comes to UK Parliament. Vacuous ‘two-state solution’ holding statements no longer tenable. The hardening politics of current 🇮🇱 govt means UK must recognise at UN in June to ensure viability

Mark Pritchard MP (@mpritcharduk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It’ll be a mistake if Trump, on reaching a nuclear deal with #Iran, lifts sanctions prematurely without ensuring Iran also ceases its funding of proxy wars in the region & Iran’s ongoing global assassination & kidnap plots. Any US/Iran deal must include all of Iran’s malign acts

Mark Pritchard MP (@mpritcharduk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Noteworthy, cross-party support for UK recognising #Palestinian State now growing. Also, strongest hint from UK Foreign Secretary will now support France/Saudi proposal at United Nations in June. But UK govt would have more authority if vote held in Commons ahead of UN meetings?
