Interested in cryoEM, but working with small proteins? Yeates Lab has the solution! Super cool new work building on many years of careful protein design - check out the preprint.

UC Merced has received a $12.5 million U.S. National Science Foundation grant to develop the Biology Integration Institute: INSITE—a research collaborative to expand the knowledge of symbioses and inform immediate and long-term conservation strategies in the face of climate change. ucm.edu/rkq7Px

Thrilled to wake up this morning to the news of one of my chemistry heroes, Carolyn Bertozzi, winning the Nobel Prize! It's impossible to listen to one of her talks without getting excited and inspired by the science!!

Was an honor to help our collaborator Judith Klinman celebrate her 80th birthday last weekend in Berkeley, with Klinman Lab UCB members, colleagues, friends, and family!! Lots of great science highlights, and some sage advice too...

The Thompson Lab (Thompson Lab - UC Merced) studies protein structure and function using X-ray crystallography. They develop new methods with a collaborative approach to science. Projects include protein design, drug discovery, and temp sensing. They're hiring! tinyurl.com/3zuk952n

What is mentorship to structural biologist Damo Lab at Fisk University? “A collaborative partnership with goals for both the mentee + the mentor.” 🫱🏿🫲🏾🫱🏼🫲🏾#NationalMentoringMonth

🙌 Thank you i dont go broke and the Thompson Lab for inviting Jorda Julien to present Pythia's use of #AI to design AB Initio Protein Binders at the CBC Seminars UC Merced. In case you missed it, here are some pictures of him in action!

I am so excited to share that I will be starting a lab in January 2024 as an Assistant Professor at OHSU School of Medicine in Portland! I am building my team, so if you are interested in cellular cryoelectron tomography, computational structural biology, and working in PDX, hit me up!

Professional update 1: As of July 1st I am now the graduate group chair for Chemistry & Chemical Biology UC Merced Chemistry - so if you have questions about graduate studies, how to apply etc. to our amazing campus please get in touch! 1/n

Check out our latest preprint with Roberto Chica Lab where we demonstrate the creation of highly active artificial enzymes by incorporating experimental crystallographic data into the design strategy...
