Andrew Standing Soldier studied at the Oglala Community College & during 1939–41 was a mural painter in the Dakotas, Idaho, & Nebraska under the Works Progress Administration. He returned to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in the 1940s, working almost exclusively in watercolor.
