Congratulations to all of the elected Benchers. But a special congratulations to the five Queen’s Law graduates elected -- Margaret Waddell, Peter Wardle, Pam Hrick, Natalia Rodriguez, and Karen Hulan. Thank you for your commitment to the legal profession and public service.

I arrived in the UK today, not to attend the coronation, though I did buy a Coronation Chicken sandwich at the airport, but for the launch of our annual International Law spring term at the Queen's University UK campus, Bader College, at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, below.

Queen's University announced today that Colleen Flood will be our next Dean of Law. I am thrilled. Colleen has an international reputation as a brilliant scholar of public law and health law. We are so fortunate to have her assume the reigns of leadership at Queen's Law.

I shook the hand of Dean John Whyte when getting my law degree from Queen's in 1989. He was and remains a mentor to me. I never imagined then that I'd be in his place one day. My last convocation as Dean of Law is over. It has been such a privilege to honour our graduates.

At midnight the succession occurred according to ancient law and custom: my time as Dean of Law at Queen's ended and Colleen Flood's deanship began. Colleen, you're now officially part of our Queen's Law family! My best to you as you take the reins of leadership.

For anyone interested in how ideas of peace, friendship, trust, and care between very different peoples was once expressed through shell beading - or wampum - the exhibit at the McCord Museum in Montreal is wonderful.

I am saddened by the news of J.G.A. Pocock's death yesterday -- he was a few months from his 100th birthday. His book, The Ancient Constitution (1957), had a profound impact. It is a brilliant, original, hard, and frustrating book -- as good books should be.

As a visiting fellow at Balliol College and a “Blue” varsity runner at Oxford (1990-91), I attended an event today celebrating the 70th anniversary of Roger Bannisters' first sub-4 minute mile (achieved in Oxford). Mile legends Filbert Bayi and Noureddine Morceli were there!

Spent 2 days on Sir Henry Maine in this room at Paris II Panthéon-Assas, thanks to Marc Goetzmann (U de Tours) and Tristan Pouthier (CY Cergy Paris). Catherine Marshall and Céline Roynier (both Cergy) who are editing a book on Dicey were there. History of legal ideas at its best.
