We just wrapped the first week of programs. It was a great first week. Folks went out of their comfort zone, created unique art, and spent quality time at the centre! It is terrific to see the space bubbling again. Registrations are up until the end of this week!

This term, on Wednesdays we have Funmi and Simon joining us for Sewing and Music! Youth are working away on both floors as they learn the basics of these art forms and explore their own creative pursuits. Today is pattern making and beats and rhythms!

As we enter African Heritage Month, we aim to raise awareness of the Black diaspora's history and the Black community's successes. We share some beautiful photos from our African community here at MacPhee! We thank you for your brillance, creativity and commitment to our space.

Tuesdays are for Painting and Sculpting we created 3D wire pieces, model magic, cardboard inventions . with our painters we used watercolour and acrylic paints to explore the emotion, used colour theory and mixed their own palettes and now we are creating portraits.

We are closed today, Monday- February 20th in observation to heritage month. This years honouree is Rita Joe an author of the We’koqma’q Mi’kmaq Community. We encourage all to take some time to read the powerful words of her poem “I Lost My Talk” and reflect.

2 important members of our MacPhee community are our Artists-in-Residence.  They help our youth grow by facilitating some of our programs and welcoming the larger community into our space through art shows. Also, set up in our loft space to work on their art! Meet Megan and Jean!

Harriet Tubman Day is celebrated today, this civil rights leader should not be forgotten. She was a formerly enslaved person who fought to free other enslaved people from their captors. Today is to remember the heroic actions of this great woman and honour her by fighting racism.

Today we started our March Brack camp! This week will be all about "Unearth your Creativity." The youth will spend the week in activities focused on the natural environment and all it offers. They will learn about it through drama, painting, music, film & more.
