Researchers UCC Ireland's Macroscopic Quantum Matter Group have used a Scanning Tunnelling Microscope (STM) to write "UCC" with Caesium atoms on a CsV3Sb5 (CVS) sample!🔬

CVS comprises layers of Caesium and Antimony weakly bonded together. In the STM's cryogenic environment, the top layer is cleaved, revealing a clean Kagome lattice with randomly scattered Caesium atoms. These atoms must be removed for a clear scan.

Dr. Yan, a postdoctoral researcher, accomplished this by using an atomically sharp tip and high current to precisely remove each Caesium atom, positioning them outside the scanning field.👏
